The Desert Pavilion celebrates the resilience and remarkable diversity of Oman’s arid landscapes. Inside this climate-controlled biome, the harsh conditions of the country’s deserts are recreated, allowing you to experience how life thrives in extreme heat, rocky soils, and minimal water.

The pavilion showcases native desert flora, including frankincense trees and other iconic species, as well as 56 plants found nowhere else in the world. Every element — from sandy plains to rugged outcrops — is designed to reflect the natural habitats where these plants grow, giving you an intimate view of Oman’s desert ecosystems.

This biome also serves as a hub for conservation and research, preserving rare and endemic species while inspiring a deeper understanding of the delicate balance that sustains desert life. Its international debut as the Omani Pavilion at the 2023 Doha Horticultural Expo, which won the ‘Best Content Award,’ offered a glimpse of the 1,600-plant collection and the immersive experience it creates.

The Demonstration Gardens show how plants are grown, cared for, and used in daily life in Oman.

Here, you can see practical examples of cultivation and plant care, shaped by Omani tradition. At the centre is a cultivated oasis inspired by agriculture in Oman, including the falaj irrigation system.

You will see how water supports crops such as date palms and citrus, alongside other cultivated plants grown across the country. Interpretive exhibits explain how plants are used in food, medicine, craft, and culture.

These gardens are designed for learning and family exploration, connecting traditional practices with modern understanding of sustainability.
