Our story

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the northern mountains, the Oman Botanic Garden is being created as a living celebration of Oman’s extraordinary plant life, landscapes, and cultural traditions. Developed by the Ministry of Heritage & Tourism – Sultanate of Oman, the garden reflects a national commitment to protecting the country’s natural heritage while sharing it with the world.

Located near Al Khoudh, just outside Muscat, the garden spans a vast XXX-hectare protected natural area. Here, Oman’s remarkable botanical diversity is being carefully preserved, studied, and brought to life through immersive landscapes that reflect the country’s many ecosystems.

Oman Botanic Garden connects Oman’s landscapes through a flowing sequence of buildings and gardens, creating an intuitive journey through Oman’s botanical story. Interpretive pavilions, research facilities, and visitor spaces are thoughtfully woven into the terrain, allowing you to discover not only the plants themselves but also the deep cultural relationship between people and plants in Oman — from traditional crops to everyday uses in food, medicine, and craft.

Combining science, conservation, architecture, and cultural storytelling, the Oman Botanic Garden is one of the most ambitious botanical projects in the world. Yet many of these plants, and the knowledge surrounding them, risk being forgotten.

The Oman Botanic Garden was created to protect that living heritage and share it with the world.

Here, every native plant species of Oman will find a home. Through carefully recreated habitats, research, and storytelling, the garden brings Oman’s landscapes to life — from arid desert plains to misty southern mountains. You will not simply see plants; you will walk through the environments where they grow, discover the ways people have relied on them for generations, and understand why they matter for the future.

More than a place to visit, the garden is a place to learn, explore, and reconnect with nature. It will be a center for botanical research, conservation, and education, while also offering welcoming spaces for families, children, and curious minds to spend time together outdoors.

Our Roundel is the signature mark of our identity — instantly recognisable, it captures the harmony of nature and the careful balance of ecosystems that the garden represents. But beyond the symbol, the brand is about the experience: a seamless blend of culture, nature, and sustainability, inviting everyone to explore, learn, and feel a part of Oman’s story.

Design

The Oman Botanic Garden is a journey through the heart of Oman’s landscapes. Winding paths follow natural ridges and ravines, guiding visitors from sun-drenched deserts to misty mountain forests, creating a seamless connection with the land.

At its core are two breathtaking biomes — the Hajar Mountains Biome and the Dhofar Mountains Biome — where delicate and rare habitats are brought to life. Here, temperature, light, and humidity are carefully balanced so both plants and people can thrive. A bridge links the biomes, while outdoor gardens, play areas, and pavilions invite exploration, discovery, and quiet moments of reflection.

You will encounter the full spectrum of Oman’s flora: from desert acacias and euphorbias, to oasis groves of date palms, citrus, peach, apricot, and walnut trees, and the lush Dhofar cloud forests. Every corner of the garden tells a story of the land, its people, and the plants that sustain them.

Sustainability is at the heart of our design. Set within a xxx-hectare nature reserve, the garden preserves the surrounding landscape, carefully managing water, energy, and resources while embracing innovative, eco-conscious solutions.
